Style Spotlight: Preeti Grey of The Lotus Closet

Spring is officially among us no matter how erratic the weather may be and I am excited! This means warmer days and airy spring styles will be emerging as the weeks roll by. What better way to celebrate all of this than to bring you a brand new Style Spotlight feature? Today's feature hails from Las Vegas, Nevada and has a mean style game. You should be aware by now that Instagram is one of my favorite places to scout for personal style and after coming across today's stylish beauty, I knew that she would be the PERFECT candidate to feature within the Style Spotlight series.

Introducing: Preeti Grey

I can't help but find myself drawn to her style seeing that it embodies everything that I lean towards; balanced, chic appeals. I knew that today's feature wouldn't be complete without letting Preeti give her point of view concerning her style and, fortunately, I was able to ask her a few questions. Check out what she has to share below!

Nai's Visions: Thank you for allowing me to feature you within the Style Spotlight series. Before we begin, can you tell the readers a little about yourself?

First off, I’d like to say thank you so much for featuring me in your series, it means so much! And hello everyone! My name is Preeti Grey from The Lotus Closet. I’m just an Indian girl from Las Vegas, motivated to spread fashion and style as a means of confidence! I’m currently finishing up my Biochemistry degree and starting my Doctor of Pharmacy in the fall. I guess you could say I’m a science nerd with an odd enough liking for fashion!

NV: At what point would you say that you began to cultivate the sense of style that you have today?

I’d like to say I’ve always had a sense of style, but we all know that’s not the case! I had my fair share of nerdy glasses, acne and funny looking outfits. My mother was always into traditional Indian and Middle Eastern fashion so ever since I could speak I would ask to play dress up with all the beautiful pieces of clothing she had. Yet, it wasn’t until my senior year of college I really became passionate about my own personal style. It was something that let me express who I was without having to communicate it verbally. Ever since then, my style has only evolved!

NV: How would you describe your sense of style and what are some of the things, if any, that have shaped it?

I would describe my style as sophisticated fun! Somehow, I always find it in me to look dressed up and well put together, even when I’m just running errands. Something about being in beautiful and structured pieces makes me feel so confident. I know I can stand tall and get the job done. After all, confidence IS key, right?

NV: Do you feel that the style that you have today will continue to evolve over time? Why or why not?

Absolutely, just as the seasons pass on the runway with ever changing styles and trends. Influences and inspirations in my life are always changing and since those are major factors for my style, I can’t imagine my style staying constant. I love looking back on pictures from a year ago, or even six months! It’s quite a shocker sometimes.

NV: I couldn’t help but your notice your extensive outerwear collection. What influences you to choose a specific coat over another when putting together a look?

Oh dear, you noticed my unhealthy addiction to outerwear!

Structure, structure, structure. I always preach this! If I’m wearing something tight like a cami and pencil skirt, I’m going to opt for a flowy style to balance the look. On the other hand if I’m wearing a pair of bf jeans and a slouchy top, go for a well-built coat. The structure of a coat can honestly make or break an outfit!

NV: Off of the top of your head, what are 5 items in your closet that you feel the most drawn to?

At this moment, the top five items that I can’t stop using would have to be:

1. Turtleneck camel sweater

2. Black waterfall coat

3. Distressed bf jeans

4. Strappy black heels

5. Faux Fur

It’s basically all you need to create any look, fancy, casual, date night, you name it! I love when pieces pair easily with a multitude of things.

NV: Last but not least, if you could share one piece of style advice with your younger self, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid! When I was just starting to learn about fashion and style, I was afraid what others would think. I’ve learned that not everyone will like what you do, what you wear, etc., but that’s what makes you, you. So go for it!
